Free Verse Friday #5
Each week I share a raw, unedited poem; pulled straight from wherever I’m at. No polish. No plan. Just truth, line by line.
It’s Free Verse Friday.
And this one came from the in-between.
That space between numbing and feeling.
Avoidance and awareness.
Between being afraid to sleep… and finally wanting to dream again.
Because when you’ve kept reality at bay, facing the rawness of your own mind is no small thing.
But this week, the fog thinned. And I felt ready to welcome the stories that rise when you stop running from the dark.
This poem came from that place.
The first night I chose sleep and meant it.
Coming Home to Dream
Back on the ground again.
Wind softens to breeze.
Thoughts once scattered like ash
Now settle as dust.I'm ready to dream again.
To face what waits
In the deep, dark hush of sleep. It’s no small feat
Welcoming the subconscious,
All those pieces
You kept neatly tucked away. But reality isn't far from dreams.
They overlap.
Processing finds form:
Pictures of your deepest fears,
Laid bare for your psyche to witness. What you do with the messages
That’s where growth becomes real.So close your eyes.
Open your mind.
And you’ll see
Dreams arrive as stories,
Begging to be seen.
If this landed—let it linger.
Save it. Share it. Read it again before bed.
And if you’re somewhere between fog and clarity, numb and awake—that’s the beginning.
New poem drops every Friday. Subscribe so you don’t miss it.
Until next time,
